Moving day is almost here! I would say we are about 90% packed and will most everything done by Friday morning before the movers come. Packing tonight was difficult as it was up to 100 degree here (37 celsius) and we don't have air conditioning upstairs in the house. It is HOT HOT HOT. Oh, it will be SO exciting to be able to sleep in the air conditioning again!
The new house is ready for us - 3 rooms painted with one more following close behind. Our IKEA furniture arrived yesterday and Barry has already assembled most of it. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm heading to the house tomorrow so I definitely have something to look forward to. I've been taking pictures of the progress, so maybe tomorrow I'll take some of the furniture and try to post in the next week or so.
In other news, the baby is 14 weeks old today and we are officially into the 2nd trimester. I'm already starting to feel better - not as tired and I can eat more without feeling sick. Yay! Today one of my coworkers brought ice cream for everyone and I was so happy that my body finally wanted ice cream again. :) Here is more about the baby at 14 weeks: http://www.babycenter.com/6_your-pregnancy-14-weeks_1103.bc
I have another appointment at the end of next week, but that is just for a brief check in so the doctor can make sure that my belly is looking and feeling right.

The house is ours!
Well, it has been a BUSY two days! We closed on the house on Friday afternoon and got to meet both of the previous owners. To say they were nice is an understatement; they were just so great. You can tell that they loved that house more than anything (they lived there for 25 years!) and were sad to see it go. They decided it was time for them to move to a townhouse to have less responsibility. I think they felt very relieved that we loved the house so much and knew we would take good care of it.
After that, we headed straight to the store to buy paint and all of the necessary supplies. We then headed over to Jen's to celebrate Barry's birthday dinner with her, mom, and Sophia. Then, it was right back to the house to start taking wall paper down. Oh boy, we did not expect that to be so difficult! Well, the wallpaper in the bathroom peeled right off and we thought our job would be so easy. Then we got to the master bedroom and knew we were fooled! That wallpaper would NOT come off no matter how much we tried. We felt like it was going to be a lost cause.
The next day, I went back to the store and got some special solution that should make the job easier and it really did help. I am happy to say that the master bedroom is finally wallpaper free!. We had some friends come over today to help out and were able to also get the bathroom painted as well as the first coat of paint on the nursery. Jen will come over tomorrow to help us make even more progress. I'm technically not supposed to be around the paint fumes, so I stuck to working on the wallpaper all day. Tomorrow I will work on the wallpaper in the guest room while Barry and Jen do more painting.
So far, we have met 3 neighbors and everyone is very friendly. One neighbor even said to let him know if there was anything he could help with when we move! I think we are really going to like our new neighborhood. :)

Final walk through of our new home
Hi Folks!
This will be my first entry on our little blog. Today we had the final walk through at our new house before we officially sign the papers on Friday. It was the first time we had been back at the house for a couple of weeks, and it's safe to say I missed it! While we were there we we lucky enough to meet the house owner, who was back packing up the last of their belongings. He could not have been a nicer guy. He took us around and showed us how to use the sprinkler system (I know, fancy) and the sauna (super fancy!). He also told us about the annual "Pork and Fork" event that the street has. Once a year, they close off the back alleyway and have a community get together. Each persons driveway is allocated a different task. Apparently ours is where the food tent is. They hire a band to play and decorate all the garages. Sounds like so much fun! We really feel as though we are moving into a fantastic neighbourhood. We briefly got to meet our neighbours on one side, who seem very nice. They have a tiny dog, and we learned that Ellen and I will be one of the few people in the street who don't have a canine companion. We are inheriting a doghouse in the back yard though. That will be reserved exclusively for me whenever I misbehave :)
Next big step, signing the papers on Friday. It's also my Birthday, but I feel that buying our first house together may take precedence that day. Then a busy weekend ahead of painting. We will update here to keep you all in the loop.

12 weeks in and the baby is squirmy!
Yesterday I saw the genetic counselor to learn all about the possible genetic issues that could happen with the baby and to talk about the testing we were going to move forward with. We spent about 25 minutes talking about family history and they asked me questions that were very hard to answer. They wanted to know what each of our grandparents died of, as well as what diseases people might have acquired at early ages. Unfortunately, a lot of my answers were "I don't know!" :)
What I didn't know was that I was going to have an ultrasound as part of the appointment! They do it at this point to look at different markers such as how long the sack of fluid is around the baby's neck and if the nose area is developing properly. When they first started the ultrasound the baby was very squirmy! He/she was waving its little arms and legs around like a silly little baby. But at the end of it, the sonographer said that everything looked really good. :)
Barry has the weekend off and we have to pack like fools all weekend. I feel like we have so much to do!

I think Barry and I might head down to IKEA tonight (like he doesn't get enough of that place already!) to buy the crib and storage for the baby's room. They are having a sale on couches, so we'll also get a new couch and some dining room storage as well. Excited for the big shop!

Just getting started...
Well, here we go! Life is about to get pretty crazy pretty quickly. We close on our house on the 22nd of this month and will spend a week after that getting the house Ellen and Barry ready. We have some wallpaper to take down (no, we are NOT keeping the golf wallpaper in the basement bedroom!) and 4 rooms to paint. We have a ton of packing left to do and I'm hoping now that my energy is returning, I'll feel more inspired to get it done.
The baby is growing slowly but surely. Were are around 11 1/2 weeks in and you can see the baby's stats from week 11 here: http://www.babycenter.com/6_your-pregnancy-11-weeks_1100.bc
This week I go for genetic testing and hopefully we'll learn a little more about how the baby is looking. Fingers are crossed that everything looks good!
